Lagg Single Malt Small Batch Quarter Cask is the first-ever Small Batch from Lagg Distillery to be released worldwide with exclusive Quarter Cask maturation. Fully matured for six years in 125 litre Quarter Casks re-made from ex-Bourbon barrels, this whisky showcases the remarkable influence of small cask maturation. Lagg have chosen to bottle it at 56% Vol, without chill filtration or added colouring. For this Small Batch Edition, they used Concerto malted barley and water from their own borehole. The malt is peated to 50ppm in the kiln, then crushed and agitated in our mash tun to create a cloudy wort, delivering a more oily, robust flavour. Lagg’s selected yeast and fermentation help develop the full-bodied character that Lagg is renowned for. The spirit is then distilled twice at approximately 11 litres per minute in a handmade copper pot stills before they make their careful cask selection. Quarter Casks have long been prized for their ability to accelerate the interaction between spirit and oak. At just 125 litres, they provide a greater surface area than traditional casks, allowing the whisky to develop enhanced richness and complexity throughout maturation. For Lagg’s heavily peated spirit, exclusive maturation in Quarter Casks intensifies notes of vanilla, butterscotch and warming oak spice while complementing the distinctive peat smoke with bright citrus and charred sweetness. The result is a whisky of remarkable depth, concentration and balance that showcases the character of both the spirit and the cask.
